The Kid Laroi is the stage name of Australian rapper Charlton Kenneth Jeffrey Howard (born on August 17, 2003), who jumped to fame in 2018 as a mentee of American MC Juice Wrld. Born in Sydney and raised in the rural town of Broken Hill, Howard developed a taste for hip-hop through his mother’s record collection, which included Erykah Badu, The Fugees, and 2Pac. During his teenage years, the family moved back to the suburb of Waterloo and Howard soon started performing under the pseudonym The Kid Laroi. His official debut EP 14 with a Dream arrived in 2018. That same year, he became a finalist on the Triple J Unearthed competition, landing a spot as opening act for Juice Wrld’s Australian tour. The pair quickly hit it off and the American rapper took him under his wing, prompting a record deal with Columbia Records. Howard further increased his profile with the singles “Diva,” featuring Lil Tecca, and “Go,” a Juice Wrld collaboration included in F*ck Love, his star-studded 2020 debut mixtape. Aided by the aforementioned single, the mixtape reached Number 1 both on the Australian charts and the Billboard 200, and spawned a deluxe version entitled F*ck Love (Savage) shortly after, featuring Marshmelo, Machine Gun Kelly, and YoungBoy Never Broke Again. In 2021, The Kid Laroi scored his first Top 10 hit in the US with the Miley Cyrus duet “Without You” and teamed up with Justin Bieber later that year for “Stay,” an infectious electro pop number that topped the charts in Australia, Canada, and several European countries. A third edition of his debut mixtape, F*ck Love 3: Over You, also arrived that year, featuring guest spots by Polo G, G Herbo, and Lil Durk.
