Migos

Formed in Lawrenceville, Georgia in 2008, Migos is a hip hop trio founded by rappers Quavo (Quavious Keyate Marshall), and his nephews Offset (Kiari Kendrell Cephus) and Takeoff (Kirsnick Khari Ball), who were cousins. Originally calling themselves Polo Club, they changed their name to Migos in 2009. After several mixtapes – Juug Season (2011) and No Label (2012) – the group finally came to prominence with the release of their third mixtape, Y.R.N. (Young Rich Niggas), and their single “Versace,” which slipped into Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart at Number 99. Over the next two years, Migos released a succession of mixtapes – including three volumes of the Streets on Lock series, Solid Foundations, and No Label 2 – and the Trap Symphony EP before the release of their debut album, Yung Rich Nation (2015). The album was an international success, reaching Number 3 on Billboard’s Rap/Hip Hop Albums chart, Number 5 on the R&B Albums chart, and Number 17 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart. Migos’ 2017 album Culture was even more successful, reaching Number 1 on the Rap/Hip Hop, R&B, and Billboard 200 albums charts. The single "Bad and Boujee" (featuring Lil Uzi Vert) was also Number 1 across the board. The trio’s next album, Culture II (2018), which was also a chart topper, featured production by Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, Travis Scott, and Metro Boomin. The album featured the Top 10 singles “MotorSport” (with Nicki Minaj and Cardi B), “Stir Fry,” and “Walk It Talk It” (featuring Drake). Migos released their fourth album, Culture III, in 2021. Featuring guest appearances from Cardi B, Drake, Juice Wrld, Justin Bieber, Drake, and others, the album was another success, rising to Number 2 on several Billboard albums charts. It was followed by the EP Culture III (Takeoff's Way) in 2021 and by a joint LP between Takeoff and Quavo titled Only Built for Infinity Links in 2022. On November 1, 2022, Migos member Takeoff was shot in a bowling alley in Houston, Texas and died instantly at the age of 28.
