Jarad Higgins (December 2, 1998), aka Juice WRLD, was an American rapper from Illinois who learned to play the piano, guitar, and drums as a child. He began rapping in his late teens and released tracks on the Internet with an EP titled 999 in 2017. The track "Lucid Dreams" went to Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Number 10 on the UK Singles Chart. His 2018 debut album Goodbye & Good Riddance, which included "Lucid Dreams," reached Number 5 on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and Number 6 on the Billboard 200. Also in 2018, he collaborated with Grammy Award-winning American rapper Future on the album Wrld on Drugs, which topped the R&B/Hip-Hop and Top Rap Albums charts and peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard 200. A second studio album titled A Deathrace for Love was released in March 2019 and gave him his first Number 1 on the Billboard 200. On December 8, 2019, just a few days after his 21st birthday, police boarded a private plane on which Higgins was a passenger. As the police searched the plane for drugs, Higgins began having a seizure and was taken to hospital where he later died of a suspected overdose. In the aftermath of his death, his third full-length Legends Never Die (2020) broke the record for most successful posthumous debut by reaching the top of the charts in the United States, Canada, Australia, and several European countries. Fighting Demons, his second posthumous album, saw the light in 2021 and peaked at Number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100. It was followed by the release of the documentary film Juice Wrld: Into the Abyss later that year.
