Lanez is now requesting bail, according to a Substack article by court reporter Meghan Cuniff, who also posted to X about the alleged development. Cuniff has shared screen-grabs of a purported new motion asking that Lanez be permitted 'to live locally in Los Angeles' rather than in prison. Chassagne, who was seen weeping outside the courthouse after Lanez' sentencing, is referred to in the screen-grabs as his 'wife.' Chassagne was seen overcome with emotion following Lanez' sentencing on August 8, and was consoled by friends while waiting by her car outside court. During the first day of the sentencing hearing, Chassagne gave an emotional plea to lessen his sentence - calling her ex-boyfriend an ambitious and trusting person. Six-year-old Kai's mother Raina attested to the rapper's dedication as a father - and tried to urge the judge to consider leniency to break the cycle of black fathers being incarcerated and therefore separated from their children. Her pleas, however, did not work. Lanez was sentenced to a decade in prison. During the trial in December, Tory Lanez showed up to court holding his son Kai - stepping out of the car he had traveled in while lifting the boy out in his arms. He was seen adjusting the boy's suit and then walking into the courtroom together. Following the day in court, he also carried him out, saying: 'He is my support system and I'm his too.' At his sentencing yesterday, convicted Canadian musician Lanez said that victim Megan is 'someone I still care for dearly to this day' despite the outcome. Lanez, real name Daystar Peterson, said about the shooting that put him behind bars for a decade: 'I said some very immature things that I shouldn't have said. 'I revealed some secrets I shouldn't have revealed.' The sentence brings an end to a dramatic trial that created a cultural firestorm in the hip-hop community. The rapper, wearing a black skull cap, was handcuffed in his orange prison overalls as Los Angeles Superior Court Judge David Herriford handed down the sentence. The judge denied the probation Lanez's defense had been asking for. Before being given 10 years, Lanez begged the judge not to send him to jail. If I could turn back the clock I would….I apologize. ‘Everything I did that night I’m take responsibility for. I ask you for the chance to be a better father, a better mentor. I’m asking you not to judge me just on this case, but on the full scope of my life.
