Filmmaker Trey Edward Shults exploded onto the scene with the indie feature “Krisha” in 2015 before going onto other acclaimed features, including the thriller “It Came at Night” and “Waves”. Last February it was reported Shults was teaming up with musician Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) for a new project, one that will also star “Wednesday” breakout Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan who is getting raves for his “Saltburn” work. Title and plot details were under wraps, but the project was already filming at the time with Shults directing from a script he co-wrote with Tesfaye and Reza Fahim. A new report at has revealed apparent details of the story, which their sources suggest is a “loose remake” of Rob Reiner’s 1990 film adaptation of Stephen King’s novel “Misery”. They indicate the film will see The Weeknd playing himself, a famous singer, whilst Ortega plays his deranged fan/stalker. The original “Misery” starred James Caan and Kathy Bates, the latter rave reviews. “Blonde” cinematographer Chayse Irvin and “Uncut Gems” composer OPN aka Daniel Lopatin are also onboard. Tesfaye, Fahim, Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss are producing. The Weeknd is coming off the disastrous “The Idol” series at HBO, whilst Ortega couldn’t be in more demand right now for her work in the “Scream” franchise and “Wednesday”. She has both “Miller’s Girl” and “Beetlejuice 2” on the way this year. Read more
