Kanye West Jeen-Yuhs Act 1: Vision SOHH.com

The highly anticipated Kanye West Netflix docuseries starts off with Ye hustling in the Chi to make his dreams come true. Kanyes friend, Coodie Simmons, narr

Share Coodie started off in Chicago as a comedian with camera skills to boot. He began his career hosting a TV show called Channel Zero On Scene, where he interviewed different hip-hop stars and showed off his comedic skills. In 1998, Coodie was inspired by a movie called Hoop Dreams and came to Kanye about documenting his own rise to fame a prescient idea that is now allowing fans and the world to see the jeen-yuhs then and now. After hearing Kanyes production on Jay-Zs Izzo debut live at The 2001 BET Awards, Coodie said he knew Kanye was on his way. So when Kanye moved to NYC in 2001, Coodie followed suit and left behind his comedy career to documenting Kanye full-time. Kanye was just as arrogant back then as he is now. No doubt he has grown as a man but after watching jeen-yuhs people will realize hes changed very little from his origins. We see Ye progressively and eagerly working his way into Roc-A-Fella Records after producing half of Jay-Zs Blueprint album his main goal was to push to be recognized as an artist, not just a hit producer. Coodie captures footage of Rocafella CEO Dame Dash acknowledging Ye as a good dude with no bad intentions toward anything in the world, very spiritual individual, very soulful, well-guided, very musical. But Coodie narrates that even after Dame said those words, he didnt sign him as an artist. It just felt like they wanted to keep him around to make beats for his artists, remarks Coodie. Yes hard work ethic is evidently displayed in the documentary as he maneuvered around obstacles and never took no for an answer. Ye wanted a feature on MTVs massively popular You Hear It First segment, an opportunity that would finally give him exposure as an artist. He won the spot and the rest is history. Dug Infinite and No I.D. are recognized for teaching Ye how to make beats. Dug, a rapper and producer, met Kanye after his college professor, Donda West, told Dug how she bought her son Kanye some production equipment. We see a scene about the drama between Dug and Ye after Dug made a diss song about Ye but the two squash it out and move on a repetitive theme of drama, squash and repeat seems to run through Kanyes life even till this day Midway through we get to see the inspiration behind Ye, his mom/manager Donda West. Having heard so much about her through his music, its good to get a chance to see their interaction and how much she warms Yes heart. Donda always told him that hes the man and that she loves how he expresses himself. In one scene, the two travel back to their old home and reminisce on all the trials and tribulations he experienced with the love and support from Donda. Whats touching is how she explains to Ye how to balance being humble and confident at the same time, saying The giant looks in the mirror and sees nothing. She teaches him to be grounded while still being able to touch the sky an obvious inspiration for his hit song, Touch The Sky. During the MTV You Heard It Here First interview, Kanye explains how he uses everything that people say he cant do to an advantage and flips it to the positive. Years later, we get to see that what many misconstrued as crazy is his determination and drive to get wherever life would take him. As the docuseries wraps, Coodie recalls the night he got a call from Kanye that would change his trajectory forever. Because of his drive and his persistence, Coodie recalls, Dame Dash was FINALLY ready to make his record deal official. We finally get to see Kanye sign his first deal with Rocafella Records. Backstage in Chicago, we see Ye, Pharrell, Beyonce, and Dame right before he joins JAY-Z on stage and is given his Roc chain, making him the newest artist on Roc-A-Fella Records. On Twitter, fans have given the series acclaim, praising Kanye for how much he worked to get to where he is. One fan cites how he is inspired by how Ye persisted despite being ignored, saying he kept playing his music to them defjam execs no one paid attention and the fact that he was always introducing himself to everyone in that office in NY. Saw that and he kept playing his music to them defjam execs no one paid attention and the fact that he was always introducing himself to everyone in that office in NY Nos September (@gudtobeblack) February 17, 2022 Overall it warmed my heart to see how Kanye West became the person he is now.
