Share The Chicago rapper formally filed a petition to change his name from Kanye Omari West to just Ye. With no middle or last name. West said he wanted the change for personal reasons. Before the name change can be official a judge must approve his petition. This is not the first time Kanye has tried to drop his name either. Back in 2018 the rapper tweeted saying, I am no longer formally known as Kanye WestI am Ye. Ye, an abbreviation of his first name is his long standing nickname going all the way back to his hit single with #JayZClique. Remember Jay said, Yeah, Im talking Ye. The name also has spiritual meaning to it as he used Ye as the title of his eighth studio album that was released in 2018. In an interview with Big Boy in 2018 Kanye was quoted saying, So Im you, Im us, its us. It went from Kanye, which means the only one, to just Ye just being a reflection of our good, our bad, our confusion, everything. The album is more of a reflection of who we are. Kanyes Instagram and Twitter accounts both show his name currently as Ye as well. Although his official handle remains Kanye West on both social media channels. How do you feel about the name change?
